James Lewis Hillery, Esq.

Jamie has over 25 years of experience in general practice serving clients in a variety of areas. His practice focuses on business law, estate planning and administration and family law. Under those broad headings Jamie represents small business owners in all the legal areas they encounter including such things as business corporation and LLC formation, contracts, real estate, employment issues and business succession planning. One of the great joys of the practice of law for Jamie is the long-term relationships we develop with business owners over years of consulting with them and their families and helping them through the many challenges and successes they encounter.

Estate planning includes such things as simple Wills, Powers of Attorney and health care planning, to more complicated estate plans, trusts, guardianships and elder law and Medicaid planning issues. Helping people get their own affairs in order, understanding what is important to them, and giving them peace of mind through careful planning has been a very pleasing part of the practice for Jamie. Helping people figure out what needs to be done legally when they have lost a loved one is one of the challenging, but honored privileges of practicing in the estate administration area, as is helping people through sad and difficult times.

Family and domestic law has always been a part of Jamie’s practice as well. Divorces, custody, child support and parenting time issues and disputes are unfortunately common, and in Jamie’s opinion best addressed in as amicable a manner as possible. Jamie can be a firm advocate for his clients without being a jerk.

Jamie grew up in nearby Columbus Indiana and was graduated from Columbus North High School. Jamie completed his undergraduate degree at Indiana University, and clerked at then Chilcote & Kibbe, PC while in law school and joined the firm as an associate upon being graduated from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington in 1998. He became a partner in the firm in 2006. Hiking, fishing, golf, and both downhill and cross country skiing have been Jamie’s favorite activities despite being equally challenged at all of them, for years. Jamie loves his pets and understand how you feel about yours too.

Our practice extends over almost the entirety of Indiana, but with a primary focus on Marion, Johnson, Hendricks, and Hamilton Counties. With the exception of this website, our entire marketing approach consists of caring about clients, doing a good job for them, and trusting that when a former client, or a friend or loved one needs a lawyer, that they will think of our firm. This approach has worked well for our firm for over 45 years.
